Haydn is considered one of the greatest classical composers of the late a classical era. Known principally for his string quartets and symphonies, Haydn also wrote keyboard sonatas and, for a time, taught Beethoven – although Beethoven later reported that he didn’t learn a thing, which may have had more to do with their personality differences than Haydn’s competency as a teacher.
